Bay to wait on better ground in new year

Alton Bay looks set to be seen in the new year for a novice hurdling campaign.

The six-year-old has been a great advertisement for the Peter Fahey yard, winning four successive races, two in bumpers and two on the Flat, during the summer.

He was last seen finishing second to the top-class Rebel Fitz on the level at Listowel in September, and is enjoying a break.

Fahey said: "Alton Bay is finished for the year and he is at home with his owner, Anthony Coyne.

"He will come back after Christmas and we will go novice hurdling with him.

"We will see how he goes and he won't run on real heavy ground."
