Beano Power sheds maiden tag in Navan’s opener Beano Power (7/1jf) gained a first success today, landing Navan’s opening Kilberry Apprentice Handicap for owner Sabina Power, jockey Sorcha Woods and trainer Eddie Lynam. The 53-rated Dandy Man-filly had previously finished twice from 10 starts and in today’s race quickened well to lead inside the final furlong, scoring by 1.5 lengths from She’s Smart. Lynam said "it was good to get and she did it well. She (Woods) gave her a really good ride I thought: she doesn't get many opportunities but is good value for her 7lb claim. "The real story with this filly is that on her last run on the turf she fell on the road, she went down and picked herself up and ran on and finished fifth (at Down Royal). She got a very bad cut and got damage in the tissue of the tendon. “John the vet in Anglesey Lodge did a great job, we saved her and that's why she is on the team, having just a 50-odd rated. She has been running well and she handles this ground." Quotes from Michael Graham
