Becher Chase the aim for Pineau Dr Richard Newland has said that the Becher Chase is likely to be the first major target of the season for Pineau De Re. The 2013 Grand National winner, who finished 12th in this year's renewal, is to be aimed at the three-and-a-quarter-mile event over the famous Aintree fences in December. Although Pineau De Re will be 13 by the time of next year's Grand National, the Claines handler is hoping to give him one more shot at the Aintree showpiece. Newland said: "Pineau De Re is out in the field now but we are going to bring him back for a crack at the Becher Chase "He jumped beautifully in the National but he needed slightly softer ground as he just struggled to go with them when they quickened on that ground. "I would like to have one more go at it and Daryl (Jacob) thought he was capable. "However, if he shows us nothing before Christmas, then we will give up on him and give him a good home as he doesn't owe us anything." Newland has also identified two possible starting points for this year's Grand National sixth Royale Knight. He said: "Like Pineau De Re, Royale Knight is now out in the field and the plan will be to bring him back in either the Durham National, which he won last season, or the Borders National. "I would like to get him back in the Grand National again but he would have to go up a few pounds to get in."
