Beethoven ruled out of Newmarket

Beethoven has been ruled out of the stanjames.com 2000 Guineas after meeting with a slight setback.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien has revealed on his website that last year's Dewhurst winner will now be aimed at the French version instead.

"Beethoven has met with a slight training setback and therefore is going to have an easy week this week," said the Ballydoyle handler.

"Unforunately this is going to rule him out of the stanjames.com English 2000 guineas and he will now be aimed at the Frech 2000 guineas instead."

O'Brien has three other possible challengers for the Newmarket classic.

St Nicholas Abbey is currently 6/4 favourite while Fencing Master and Viscount Nelson could also run for Ballydoyle.
