Benbaun On Course For York Tilt

Trainer Mark Wallace reports Benbaun to be firing on all cylinders ahead of the Group One VC Bet Nunthorpe Stakes at York on August 18.

William Hill have trimmed the four-year-old to 12-1 from 16s to win with five-furlong event after Osterhase, whom Benbaun beat in a Listed event last time out, won the Group Three Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

'I was absolutely delighted to see Osterhase win and I hope that form will stand up in the Nunthorpe,' said Wallace.

'He´s in good order and he is an improver. He´s going to be one of the more unexposed horses in the field so it is understandable that there´s been a bit of support for him.'

The Newmarket handler also confirmed the Group One William Hill Sprint Cup at Haydock in September is still the long-term goal for Benbaun.

'That race is still on the agenda but we´ll obviously see how he comes out of the Nunthorpe,' added Wallace.

'His best work at the moment is over five furlongs but he has won over six furlongs at Haydock before, so that won´t be a problem for the Sprint Cup.'
