Berry aiming for York return Fran Berry is aiming to be back in action in time for York's four-day Ebor Festival later this month after being sidelined with a back injury. The Irish rider fractured a bone in his back when unseated from the Alan Bailey-trained Mrs Eve, who suffered a fatal injury, at Doncaster on June 24th. Berry had ridden 26 winners since he became Ralph Beckett's stable jockey at the start of the Flat turf season and was aboard the trainer's first Royal Ascot winner, Kinema, in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes. "Things have gone very well. I just need to rest more than anything else," Berry told At The Races. "I was told to give it six or seven weeks rest and hopefully be back by the eighth week. "I'm up for a review with my surgeon next Thursday, get a fresh scan and I'm hoping he'll give me the go-ahead to get back riding out, maybe next weekend. "York from day one has been the aim. Maybe with the surgeon's blessing and everything being OK I could possibly get back riding on the Monday before that."
