Berry aims for Magic black-type John Berry is hoping to pick up some valuable black type with Abbey Magic in the Horse & Jockey EBF Boreen Belle Mares Novice Hurdle at Thurles on Sunday. The five-year-old is on a hat-trick heading into the two-mile Listed contest, having landed her last two starts at Tramore and Wexford in October. Berry admits she is likely to face much stiffer opposition at the weekend, but is looking forward to seeing how the daughter of Beneficial performs in a better grade. "We'd be hopeful but we'll find out more about her on Sunday, how good she is," said Berry. "I'd say she's probably better on better ground, but we'll find out a bit more about that, too. "It's a big step up for her but at least we'll know where we stand after it. "We're limited in the amount of races that there are for her against mares, but she has won over that trip. "Getting a bit of black type is more or less the aim. If we could get that, it would be great. "There are 11 in it, but Willie (Mullins) has three and Gordon (Elliott) has a couple so they probably won't run all of theirs. "We'll see how we get on there first and then play it by ear after that."
