Berry booked to ride Mourayan

Jockey Fran Berry is looking forward to having his first ride in the Ladbrokes St Leger on Mourayan for John Oxx.

With stable number one Mick Kinane riding Alandi in the Irish equivalent at the Curragh, Berry gets his first opportunity to shine in the oldest Classic at Doncaster.

He said: "It's a nice opportunity to get, he should have a good chance."

The rider added: "It's my first ride in the St Leger, but I have ridden in the Derby for Aidan (O'Brien) and I've been to Doncaster four or five times. I've been over for the Lincoln and I remember riding Curtain Call in the Racing Post Trophy, so I do know the track.

"I rode this horse in the Beresford last year when he was second to Sea The Stars. He ran a good race there and looked a horse that would do well over middle distances.

"His run in the Irish Derby (third to Fame And Glory) was very good and you'd think the extra two and a half furlongs would suit him.

"He'll handle the ground fine, but you'd imagine a bit more ease would suit him better than a lot of the other runners. He's in great order at the moment."
