Bethrah on course for Guineas

Bethrah booked her place in the Irish 1,000 Guineas when lunging late to claim the Derrinstown Stud Trial at Leopardstown.

Pat Smullen got a good tune from the Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned filly inside the final furlong.

Dermot Weld 's charge put her head in front close home for a neck success over Atasari

It was a double for the pair after the earlier success of Precious Gem in the Property Properly Handicap.

"That was a positive performance. She got a lovely ride from Pat Smullen and will obviously go for the Irish 1,000 Guineas now," said Weld.

"She has always showed plenty of ability and won her maiden easily the other day before following up there.

"She can get a bit excitable but there has been a lot of work gone into her over the winter with stalls and she's responded very well.

"She's an improving filly and I think she'll represent us very well in the Irish 1,000 Guineas."

Ladbrokes quoted the winner at 20/1, from 66/1, for the Curragh classic.

Weld was also delighted with the effort of Address Unknown in the Derby Trial:-

"It was a very good run. He's a big horse and would appreciate a bit more of an ease.

"He ran a very good race and was beaten by a very good horse. Pat said it rode like a very good race.

"He came to win and did everything right but was just beaten by a very good horse."
