Beware of Racing Fraudster Notorious horse racing fraudster Terry Kirby is back and active and was spotted in Cheltenham up to his old tricks. The Co. Kildare native has a long history of posing as both jockeys and trainers in order to gain the confidence of his victims. The 48-year-old has had a string of convictions for fraud and theft both in Ireland and the UK dating back to the early 1980s. He last hit the headlines in 2010 when he escaped from an open prison in Co. Wicklow and went on a crime spree - stealing cars and cash - before being re-arrested a short time later. His previous victims have included a number of high profile jockeys, trainers, owners and bookmakers as well as members of the general public. Kirby re-surfaced at the Cheltenham Festival last week and is reported to have stolen a passport, bank cards and a sum of cash from a hotel room in the town last Wednesday night.
