Bievre set for French campaign

Mail De Bievre is unlikely to race on British turf again following his disappointing display in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Connections supplemented the French import for last week's two-mile championship, but his jumping was far from fluent and he was already going backwards when he made a horrendous mistake at the final ditch.

Trainer Tom George is hoping a return to his homeland can turn Mail De Bievre's fortunes around.

"It just went completely wrong and I don't think you'll be seeing him this side of the Channel again," said the Slad handler.

"We know he's a top-class horse in France, we gave it a go over here and unfortunately it just hasn't worked out.

"It's not through lack of ability, it just hasn't worked for him and I don't think there's any point pursuing that route, so we'll look at going back to France with him now.

"He'll probably run there in three to four weeks and then we'll look at the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris at Auteuil (May 19).

"I have six or seven horses who will be running in France and it works well.

"The main thing is the horse has come out of Cheltenham fine and in one piece."
