Big Fahey hope out of Northumberland Plate Duke Of Clarence will miss the John Smith's Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday after he suffered a season-ending setback. Trained by Richard Fahey and owned by Dr Marwan Koukash, the five-year-old finished seventh in the Chester Cup, was narrowly beaten by subsequent Royal Ascot winner Arab Spring at York and also filled the runner-up spot in a valuable race at Newmarket. However, plans have now been scuppered for the rest of the year. "He definitely won't be running at Newcastle," said Fahey. "By the time he comes right again, the season will be virtually over so we'll draw stumps with him. "I'll look at getting him back for the Chester Cup again." Fahey is instead likely to be represented in the Pitmen's Derby by Angel Gabrial, also owned by Koukash and second in the Chester Cup.
