Big race double for Geraghty & Henderson

Finian's Rainbow won the Grade 2 williamhill.com Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton this afternoon under an inspired Barry Geraghty ride, providing his rider, Geraghty and trainer Nicky Henderson with a Grade 2 double.

The 4-11 favourire set out to make all the running but made a real hash of the fourth last fence and dropped back to third place.

He was still there after the second last as Wishfull Thinking (10-3) and Oiseau De Nuit duelled for the lead but Geraghty would not concede defeat.

He galvanised Nicky Henderson's charge for another effort and he picked up well, producing one of his best jumps of the race at the last.

He landed with momentum and finished strongly to score by three-quarters of a length.

Sky Bet left the winner unchanged at 7-1 for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham.

Henderson said: "He made a mistake, and did very well to come back from it. It was just a bit of bad luck - he was doodling along minding his own business when they suddenly came rattling at him and took him on. But he winged the last two and got his second wind.

"He'll come on for that. The aim of this race was to get him ready for the Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot next month."

Geraghty and Henderson of course had won the other Grade 2 on the card at Kempton with Sprinter Sacre.
