Blinkers work the oracle on Finnians Row Finnians Row, in first-time blinkers, made virtually all for a decisive victory in the Peter Fitzpatrick & Sons Handicap Steeplechase at Downpatrick. Once Liam McKenna worked him to the front at the first fence, he got into a good jumping rhythm and was clear halfway. The jockey asked him for more approaching the last and he sailed in by 11 lengths at 28/1 for owners Anne McCartan and Frances Smyth. Morning-price-gamble Just For Yuse came in second at 4/1 and was just under two lengths in front of Struck Oil (5/2f). Dermot McLoughlin said: "First-time blinkers obviously, we just said we would try them. We just changed the headgear as he seemed to lose a bit of interest, so we just said we would put them on him. "I'd say that is probably the difference in him. The ground was a help - he ran in a bit of slower ground the last two times and it didn't suit. He didn't enjoy it and obviously today he enjoyed it and he kept going well. "He (McKenna) said he just took off with him, he said he jumped super and travelled well. He got a lead and utilised it, and kept going."
