Blooming Amerilis bags a deserved success Progressive filly Amerilis (11/2) registered a maiden success in Cork’s OCS Recruitment Handicap today, scoring readily for trainer Gillian Scott, jockey Donagh O’Connor and the Amerilis Partnership. Runner-up to subsequent Listed-winner Meriden in a Curragh handicap in June and again a second-place-finisher when stumbling at Navan last month, the daughter of Lope Y Fernandez today made all and scored eased-down from Simmering Seas . Regarding the €175,000-yearling purchase, trainer Scott, whose brother Billy Lee leads the jockeys’ championship, reported “she is a fantastic filly to get and it was very kind of her previous owner Mr (Robert) Moran to pass her on to me. “She is only now getting the hang of sprinting, and she mightn’t have been suited by the undulations of Navan the last day. Today’s course was perfect for her and she might progress again. “At the start of the season, she surprised me as she ran well on softish ground, so she can tip away on most surfaces although she loves top of the ground. It is nice to have a nice one like her and long term, breeding would be our goal with her.” Amerilis is a small genus of flowering bulbs and symbolises love, beauty, and determination.
