Blue Bolt seeking to continue fine season in Prix Rothschild Fresh from King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes glory, Andrew Balding will seek more top honours when Blue Bolt attempts to continue her brilliant season at Deauville in the the Prix Rothschild. The daughter of Blue Point has enhanced her record to six wins from nine starts after making it three from three in 2026, supplementing her Royal Ascot success by downing the best of the Classic generation in the Falmouth Stakes on the July course. Having resisted the temptation to take on some of the very best colts around at Goodwood, Blue Bolt will now remain among her own sex and head to the Normandy coast on Sunday. Barry Mahon, European racing manager for owners Juddmonte, said: “She’s a good filly and she was good last year as well to be fair if you look back through her record. Apart from her first start she did nothing wrong and ended the season chasing home Fallen Angel in a Sun Chariot. “She has probably developed a good bit from three to four and is a big, strong unit now and I thought she was very good at Royal Ascot and then even better in the Falmouth at Newmarket. “It’s exciting and she will head to Deauville now for the Prix Rothschild. “She wasn’t in the Sussex and we did briefly discuss supplementing with her owners, but we just felt it was wise keeping her against her own sex for the time being then later in the year we could consider rolling the dice against colts. “To give top-class three-year-olds weight like she did in the Falmouth was not an easy thing to do, so we’ll head to France and that will lead into some nice races in the second half of the season.” A trip to France could also be next for Oaks runner-up Legacy Link, who is currently being given all the required time to recover from her early-season exertions. John and Thady Gosden’s Musidora winner lost little in defeat when bumping into Thundering On in her quest to secure Classic honours at Epsom, but then somewhat disappointed when backed up quickly in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot. The impeccably-bred Dubawi filly is now enjoying some down time, with a trip to Goodwood for the Nassau Stakes deemed as coming too soon and Deauville’s Prix Jean Romanet on August 23 identified as the ideal spot for her return. “We gave Legacy Link a nice break after Ascot and she is just working back to full fitness. She might head for the Romanet instead,” continued Mahon. “We just ran her back too quick at Royal Ascot and Colin (Keane) said she felt flat. She was beaten before she turned in and sometimes they can bounce back quick and sometimes they can’t. Unfortunately until you get to the four-furlong pole you don’t really know what it’s going to be. “She had shown good signs at home, the team were happy with her and she looked well in the parade ring and it was all positive beforehand, it is just when you get in the red zone in the last part of the race you find out if they have it or not and unfortunately she just felt flat. “She’s had a nice break and we’re hoping to get her back for a race like the one in Deauville.”
