John McConnell 's Bois D'angos sprang a 16/1 surprise in the bumper at Limerick when he got the better of odds-on-favourite Border Lad

Border Lad held the lead racing to the final furlong but was being closed upon by Bois D'Angos who kept coming.

In the closing stages, Bois D'Angos got his head in front and finished best to beat the 8/11 shot by a length and a-quarter.

Finn Buckley said: "He was a little green the last day (3rd, Fairyhouse), but still managed to run well in what, I think, will turn out into a good bumper. He is six, but only had the point-to-point run and fell, so with limited experience he was good today.

"I was carried a little left in the straight and he kept plugging on. I'd say, had I challenged on the other side, he'd have won well.

"He came over to John's from Ben Harvey (jockey), who had him for his point-to-point and while he has been a while to come good, we were pleased with him the last day.

"I'm not sure what plans John has next but he loves that ground."

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident inside the final furlong involving Bois D'angos (FR), ridden by Mr F.R. Buckley, placed first, and Border Lad, ridden by D.G. Whelan, placed second, where it appeared they made contact. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Mr. F.R. Buckley stated that he felt contact from his right in the final furlong. D.G. Whelan stated that his mount hung left in the home straight and he felt he corrected him sufficiently. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards found D.G. Whelan, was in breach of Rule 214 in that they had ridden Carelessly, and having considered his clean record in this regard the Raceday Stewards suspended him for two race days.
