Bookies looking to open on Good Friday

Following on from the landmark decision to allow 110 pubs to open for the Magniers league clash between Leinster and Munster in Limerick City on Good Friday off-course bookmakers are seeking similar concessions.

Sharon Byrne of the IBA commented “Publicans, like ourselves, face challenging times. It’s reassuring to see the city’s district court has made this exception and identified the lack of logic in upholding the 1927 Act. We’re hopeful this same common sense reasoning will be employed on review of The 1931 Gambling Act, which forces bookmakers to close their doors on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, despite on course, online and telephone betting remaining unaffected.”
