Boughey thrilled with Night Of Gold after victory at Newmarket

Night Of Gold relished the step up in trip to give George Boughey something to dream about over the winter months on a dark, damp afternoon at Newmarket.

A 800,000 guineas purchase, the son of Night Of Thunder was sent off all the rage for his Southwell debut and for all he was beaten there and in a subsequent start at Newcastle, he was 3-1 to make it third-time lucky in the CopyBet Proudly Backs UK Horse Racing Maiden Stakes

Ridden positively by Ryan Moore, the colt thrived for the extra distance as he kept on strongly for a taking two-and-a-quarter length victory which leaves his handler justifiably encouraged ahead of his three-year-old season next year.

Boughey said: “He's a horse who is bred to stay very well and he ran with credit in two novices and he enjoyed the step up to 10 furlongs today, and it was a nice performance.

“He's got a good mind, he's a straightforward horse and one for next year. I think we could be thinking (Derby) trials early next year, but we'll see how he does over the winter. He's still very, very weak, but he'll improve and his work would determine that in the spring.”

Cinematically Springs 10-1 Debut Surprise

In the opening CopyBet Back Again At Newmarket Fillies' Restricted Novice Stakes, Karl Burke's Cinematically showed a likeable attitude to hunt down Ed Walker's 8-13 favourite Grinanbearit

and make a winning debut at 10-1 in the hands of Clifford Lee.

Lee said: “It was quite surprising and at home she hadn't really shown a lot. She has been galloping OK and tries her best, but it was great to see her do it so well today.

“She has loved the ground and I was a little outpaced early doors, but she has come on strong.”

Enactment Defies Greenness to Strike

There was also a pleasing introduction from Ralph Beckett's Enactment (7-2) to see off another odds-on market leader, Charlie Appleby's Altius in the CopyBet For Champions League Profit Boosts Novice Stakes

Winning jockey James Doyle said: “He was pretty raw and green and it's a hard day for these juveniles and he didn't take to it too well, he was a bit lit up by it all. He was good in the race though, a bit green under pressure but got himself organised once he hit the rising ground.”

There was better news for Appleby and William Buick when Noble Prince (5-1) was awarded the British Stallion Studs EBF Future Stayers Nursery Handicap in the stewards room after little separated the Godolphin runner and Beckett's 6-5 favourite Lots Road at the finish.

Buick would go on to land two more winners on the card, guiding Brian Ellison's 2-1 joint favourite Callianassa to victory in the CopyBet Follow Us On X Fillies' Handicap, before Appleby's Muqarrabin (5-6 favourite) brought up the hat-trick in the British Stallion Studs EBF Future Stayers Novice Stakes
