Trainer Dick Brabazon had the honour of being the first recipient of the Restricted Trainers Award for Flat racing 2017 when presented with his prize at the Curragh last weekend.

Restricted trainers are only permitted to have four horses in training at any one time and there are around 140 such licence holders in Ireland.

During 2017 Brabazon trained 3 winners, 4 seconds and 2 thirds from the 5 horses he had in training during the year and has started 2018 in similarly good form having already notched up a further 3 individual winners.

The 2017 National Hunt Award will be presented during the upcoming Galway Festival.

The Association of Restricted Trainers was set up in 2016 and its Chairman is John Fitzgerald (pictured presenting the award).
