Grannys Yaris (7/1) gave teenager Finbarr Brickley his first racecourse success in the mares' bumper at Tramore.

The six-year-old Jet Away mare travelled well to hit the front over three furlongs from home. The odds-on favourite Nt Field Minnesota attempted to reel her in as she moved into second racing to the final furlong.

Brickley had got after his mount, though, and she still held an advantage of at least three lengths well inside the final furlong.

She kept going and passed the post six lengths clear of the 4/9 favourite who could make no impression at the business end. Late Vocation was backed from 50/1 to 18/1 and came through for third.

Brickley said: "I'm 17 and from West Cork. That's my first winner and I'm working in Gordon Elliott's full-time but with Nigel in the evenings. Nigel has been very good to me since I first got my licence and this is just a dream come true really.

"I grew up with horses and ponies and racing is all I wanted to do. I've no family background in racing but my sister Shelley rides too and hopefully I can kick on now. That was only my third ride."

Nigel Slevin added: "We were worried about Willie's one (Mullins, Nt Field Minnesota). We got her wind done and it has turned her form around. She was well-beaten on her only run last year and she was weak then too.

"Her owner Charles (Flattery) is a breeder and she'll be for the breeding sheds. Charles is just down the road from me in Summerhill.

"I'd say she'll go jumping now, as she jumps well. Finbarr comes into me in the evenings, and he is a good kid."

The Raceday Stewards interviewed Mr A.P. Ryan, rider of third-placed Late Vocation, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his mount was hanging right all the way and he was trying to correct his mount but accepted he was in breach of the whip regulation. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that Mr. A.P.Ryan was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g) (frequency) and Regulation 10.3 (i) (time to respond). Having considered his record in this regard they suspended him for nine racedays.
