Kevin Brouder continued a good week at Killarney when Lucky Icon won the featured Dawn Milk Run Handicap Hurdle on day four of the July Festival meeting.

The Listowel rider, partnering his third winner at the track this week, elected to make all in this six-runner 2m1f event.

The Tom Mullins-trained gelding was still travelling strongly when making a slight mistake at the penultimate flight, and kept on well on the run-in to score by two lengths. Mr Picotee rallied after the last to take the runner-up spot, with Wait Here another half a length away in third.

Brouder said, “I got a few bits of breathers into him and went a nice consistent gallop all the way. He jumped from hurdle to hurdle.

“Tom is very good to me and he said just keep it simple as you have ridden enough winners to know how to ride a race.

“That’s my first winner for Tom, and every time I got a ride for him in the past I got injured the race before!

“Hopefully I can get a good clean run at it now and stay injury free. I think I’m a bit soft as every time I hit the floor I break!”
