Admiral Will Brown made an impressive start over timber when taking the opening Lisburn And Castlereagh City Council 3-Y-O Hurdle at Down Royal this afternoon.

Paddy Magee's charge went to post a 5/1 shot in the two-miler and was produced to lead going to the second last by Josh Williamson.

The Lope Y Fernandez gelding stretched clear in fine style before the last and a big leap there propelled him to a six-and-a-half length success, over even-money favourite Kenough .

The winner had scored on the level for Magee at Navan back in July and the Cavan handler is hoping he can be a smart novice over jumps this term.

"I put my neck on the line a bit for this horse. We don't have the big owners and that, but I put a few lads together,” said Magee.

"The right people from England were ringing about him. Everyone needs one good horse and hopefully this lad will be mine.

"I don't think he beat a whole pile today and he has it all to do.

"I think he probably should have won the last day in the Curragh.

"I would be worried about heavy ground. We might have to run him and see.

"We might even travel to England for a winners' of one over there."
