Dylan Browne McMonagle will return from his stint in Hong Kong over the winter as a better jockey, according to racing journalist Johnny Ward.

Speaking irishracing.com’s The Irish Angle show this week, the panel reacted to the news that Browne McMonagle has been granted a temporary licence between January 1 and March 29 while Hollie Doyle has also been invited over from November 5 to December 23.

Browne McMonagle is on course to be crowned Champion Flat Jockey in Ireland for the first time.

Browne McMonagle Now Among The World Best

Asked for her reaction to the news of Browne McMonagle’s Hong Kong licence, Emma Nagle said: “Look, it's one of those perks of being a flat jockey, isn't it? You get some nice exotic holidays in the winter time and pick up plenty of money along the way.

“I don't know much about it, but I think it's quite hard to get licensed in Hong Kong. They only give out so many licenses every year and it just shows the quality of riders we have in Ireland here.

“I suppose Dylan's among the best in the world now and it'd be nice to see him picking up a Jockeys’ Championship on his way over there.

“It'll be interesting to follow. It gives Flat fans something to keep an eye on throughout the winter.”

irishracing.com editor Vincent Finegan agreed with Nagle’s assessment and highlighted Browne McMonagle’s tender age of 22.

He said: “It's a great thumbs up to him, isn't it? At such a young age to be going there as well. There's plenty of other Irish jockeys that have gone through their whole career and never been invited over there.”

Irish Champion Jockey Title Race Heating Up

Before Browne McMonagle heads to Hong Kong in the new year, there is the small matter of the Irish Champion Flat jockey title to wrap up.

Colin Keane has claimed the title the last five years but his new role as Juddmonte’s retained rider has seen him travel across the globe to ride, instead of focusing on Ireland.

That has allowed Browne McMonagle to open up a lead at the top of the table ahead of the end of the season on Sunday 2 November.

Racing journalist Johnny Ward admitted this is the most interested in the title for some time.

He explained: "This jockey's title is going to be fascinating.

“I spoke to Ger Keane, he had a winner in Navan on Saturday, and you could tell Ger’s getting a great kick out of it as well.

“I feel that Colin is really, really challenged now.

“I don't tend to get that interested in the jockeys’ title. I think this one's going to be very interesting because Dylan, a bit like Jack Kennedy, had a massive reputation before he even started riding from the pony circuit.

“I’d imagine for a jockey that'd be massively beneficial to ride in the Far East or exotic places where there's a different style of riding and that'll definitely bring him on as a jockey and it's good that he has the support of the people here to do it.”
