Buccaneer's Spirit scores for Blarney Street-syndicate Well-backed Buccaneer’s Spirit (morning 10s, returned 5/1) returned to form with success in Cork’s Follow Cork Racecourse Social Media Handicap today, scoring for trainer Ian Donoghue, jockey Sam Coen and the local Hoggies Bar Syndicate. Claimed for €12,000 having won at Ballinrobe last July, the five-year-old carried form-figures of only ‘88000’ into today’s race but having dropped to the lowest 0-60 bracket, attracted market support and was neatly produced from rear-division to score by a neck from Land Of The Giants . Donoghue wasn’t present, with syndicate member Paul Murray reporting “all the syndicate are from the north side of Cork city, with Hoggies Bar being on Blarney Street. Ian (Donoghue) has done a great job with him as he had a lot of issues last year and he has just come right now. To be fair, Ian has done a super job.” Another member Michael Kearney added “Buccaneer’s Spirit likes a mile and hopefully he can now can stretch to racing over to hurdles, as that’s what we bought him for. “Really, Ian was only hopeful as he had a lot of issues last season and couldn’t get him right. It was a case of seeing how he went today, so unfortunately we didn’t get much! “He’ll be out of the 0-60 bracket now and hopefully the handicapper won’t be too hard on him.”
