Bucher-Haefner makes large donation to IIJ At last Saturday's annual Moyglare dinner attended by key figures within the horse racing industry, Eva-Maria Bucher-Haefner, owner of Moyglare Stud, presented Irish Injured Jockeys (IIJ) General Manager, Michael Higgins and Chairman, Ruby Walsh with a cheque for E50,000 as a contribution to its ongoing provision of much needed support to injured jockeys Clearly moved by Robbie McNamara’s accident and his close relationship with Moyglare Stud, her speech brought home to all present the necessity to support injured jockeys and their families. Eva-Maria Bucher-Haefner went on to say: “For me, the most important factor in any race is that both horse and jockey finish safe and sound, which I am sure everyone here tonight would fully endorse. "We need to look after our own. The priority after any accident is that the injured jockey receives immediate care and support to remove the worry for both themselves and their families, and hence be able to face the future with optimism." In thanking Eva-Maria for her generosity Ruby Walsh, Chairman of Irish Injured Jockeys, said: "The charity was set up by jockeys as their way of providing immediate support to their colleagues in time of need." Ruby went on to say, that in his opinion: "The ongoing needs of jockeys would be best served by the amalgamation of the IIJ and the existing jockey charities. "This would provide a unified structure clearly understood within the industry and the public at large which engages immediately with the injured jockey."
