Burgundy all set for Eyrefield test

Sheila Lavery expects Burgundy Boy to be suited by the step up in trip in TheTote.com Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday.

The Red Jazz colt may have only won one of his four starts to date, but he has had the misfortune of bumping into the likes of Verbal Dexterity, Gustav Klimt and The Pentagon.

Having run well in defeat against those Classic contenders, he heads into the Group Three with a lofty rating but, as is so often the case, Lavery is fearful of the Ballydoyle battalion.

"Bar nothing untoward happening, he'll be running," said Lavery.

"He was staying on nicely last time in the Tyros over seven so this trip (nine furlongs) should really suit him. I think he's matured and improved since then, too.

"On ratings he's the second-best horse in the race, but you always have to wonder what Aidan O'Brien might have lurking.

"I'm sure he'll be at his best on good ground, but they are calling it yielding and there's no rain forecast so that should be fine - it's better than you'd expect for this time of year."
