After extending her unbeaten run with a dominant Group 2 victory, Venetian Sun is being primed by Karl Burke for a possible Group 1 step-up — but the exact route remains undecided.

Venetian Sun Poised for Group 1 Challenge After Newmarket Win

Karl Burke is keeping his options open with Venetian Sun following her latest big-race success at Newmarket last week.

The Spigot Lodge handler has not made any secret of the regard in which he holds the Starman filly, and she has so far lived up to the billing with a debut win at Carlisle, followed by victories in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes on the July course.

She will now be readied for a step up to Group One company for the first time, but whether that will come at Deauville next month or at the Curragh in September remains to be seen.

Burke mulling Prix Morny and Moyglare Stud Stakes

“Venetian Sun is 100 per cent, she’s had a nice easy week on the water treadmill and we’re very happy with her,” Burke said on Thursday.

“We’ll start preparing her and look at the Prix Morny and see whether we go. If we go there we’ll go on to the Moyglare, or we could go straight to the Moyglare.”

“We’ll see how she is and make a decision closer to the time.”
