Burru makes most to land a few bets

On a track that seemed to be favouring speed on the evening, Burru (11/2) made most of the running in the hands of Micheal Kenneally to win the  Killarney Oaks Hotel Handicap Hurdle over two miles, four furlongs.

In front from the second, the Notnowcato gelding had his task rendered less arduous when the strong-travelling Elusive Ogie unseated Dan King two out and stayed on well from that point to beat Watch The Weather by three and a-half lengths.

The eight-year-old, having his first start for over six months, was well backed off course, contracting in price from as big as 20/1 this morning.

Winning trainer Benny Crowley said "This horse had left me for a while but his last two runs for me were when he won at Cork (November 2024) and then when he finished second in a good handicap at Navan, and I thought if he could just reproduce that Navan run, that it would put him in today's picture.

"Having left me for a period of time, I was a little in the dark with the horse but he was in off near bottom weight on his favoured good ground, so I did fancy him.

"This horse actually means a lot to me as he won at a time when my father was unwell, so he is a horse close to my heart.

"That's my third winner, I only have two horses for the track at the moment and had one point-to-pointer last winter. I'm based in Kilmeaden and I mostly break and pre-train horses, but can train one when we get them."
