Butty O Brien confirmed the promise of her third-place finish over course and distance last month when taking the Racing Again 7th May Handicap Chase at Wexford.

The Paddy Magee-trained mare, who missed the best part of two years after winning twice over hurdles in the 2023/24 season, was fitted with cheek-pieces and made all under Eoin Walsh in this extended 2m3f event.

The 16/1 chance asserted after two out and kept on well to beat Rockstown Girl by three and a quarter lengths with Oogum Boogum the same distance further adrift in third.

Walsh said, “I won two handicap hurdles on her before and I've ridden her throughout most of her career.

"It was the plan to go out in front today and the cheekpieces were a help too. She jumped super and loves a bit of an ease in the ground, so I was delighted to see the rain coming.

"It depends on what the handicapper does now, but that's her grade."
