By The Lake another winner for in-form Colin Keane Fresh from a treble at Naas on Thursday, champion jockey Colin Keane added to those gains when taking the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race at Dundalk on the Ger Lyons trained By The Lake. A winner over the minimum trip on her introduction at Naas in July, the filly ran well when sixth in a big sales race over 6f at the Curragh on Champions Weekend. Reverting to the minimum distance here, the 6/4f was held up in the early stages, as Rosie Frith led the way. Pushed along entering the straight, By The Lake came through to throw down a strong challenge over a furlong from the finish. Soon in front, the Lyons trained filly kept on well inside the final furlong to hold the renewed effort of Rosie Frith by a neck. Shane Lyons said:- “It was obvious that she didn’t stay the six in the sales race, with the headwind and everything like that. “Well done to Ger, it was his decision to take a punt and run her back quick over five. On the grass it would have been easier decision not to but being in Dundalk he took a punt and it’s worked out. “We’ll look at the programme book but there is a fillies Listed race back here (Legacy Stakes on October 3rd) over five. “She’s shown she’s very quick and handles here so that would be the obvious race. “She’s a two-year-old so we’ll make hay while the sun shines.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson.
