Byrne completes hat-trick on Gandolfini

Apprentice jockey Daryl Byrne won his third race in a week when taking the opening Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap at Cork on the Harry Rogers trained Gandolfini .

Gandolfini chased the leaders before progressing to lead inside the final furlong, eventually recording a four and a half lengths win.

Afterwards Rogers reported “Gandolfini deserved that win and was unlucky up the North two runs back when he couldn't get a run. Daryl gave him a good ride and we'll go for something similar again next.”

Eighteen year old Byrne, a son of ex-jockey Niall Byrne from Kildare, was recording his fourth career success.
