Byrnes lands gamble

Charles Byrnes landed a gamble when his charge Alpha Beat (8/1 - 9/2) ran out a convincing winner of the Curraghboy Handicap Chase in the hands of Brian Byrnes. Byrnes produced the six year old to lead entering the straight and the pair were clear of their rivals with two flights to jump. Byrnes charge kept on strongly on the run-in to score by a comfortable seven lengths. Winning trainer Byrnes said afterwards: “He has always been well handicapped. I don't have him that long I only got him last month.” “The two and a half at Killarney was probably against him the last day, he needs three miles.” “We will look for something similar for him now.”
