CHURCHSTANTON PUT DOWN Exciting young chasing prospect Churchstanton has been put down after developing cancer in his jaw, it was revealed today. Churchstanton won three of his four chases in England this season, the third success coming at Wetherby in December when he gave the subsequent Tote Northern National winner Narrow Water an eight-length beating. His trainer Owen Brennan said: 'After he won at Wetherby he got this lump on the side of his jaw. 'It just got bigger and bigger, though he was still eating and working well, and three vets looked at him and could not find out what the problem was other than saying it was a haematoma and would go away. 'The lump still kept getting bigger and in the end, after other people could not find what was the cause of the lump, we sent him to Cambridge. 'They found that his jaw had broken up inside because of the cancer and had to put him down. 'It was a terrible blow, he was a real gentleman, lovely to train and as good a horse as I have ever had.'
