CHURCHSTANTON SIDELINED

Owen Brennan today revealed that promising chaser Churchstanton will miss the rest of the season.

His nine-year-old has won all his three completed starts over fences and was quoted as low as 14-1 for the Royal & SunAlliance Chase at Cheltenham.

But the gelding has been hit by a mysterious tooth ailment and no decision will be made on his future until after he sees a specialist in Cambridge.

'He definitely won`t run again this season,' Brennan said. 'He has got a problem with his jaw and a tooth.

'It has got the vets completely puzzled and he is going to Cambridge tomorrow. I don`t know whether he will be back next season.

'It is a shame as we had high hopes for him.'

But the trainer is not totally despondent at missing the SunAlliance.

'I was never that keen on Cheltenham,' Brennan said. 'I would sooner win races than go there and ruin a horse - they go 1,000 miles an hour there, there are too many casualties and it knackers horses up.'
