The Philip Fenton trained Caim Hill (8/1), under Richie Kiely, bounced back to form when coming to the rescue of bookmakers, winning the Owenavarragh Maiden at Wexford today.

On paper, the race looked a match between 11/8f Earls Quarter and 6/4 chance Blossom Gate but it was Caim Hill which battled best to record his eighth career win.

Earls Quarter arrived with every chance in the straight but failed to pick up inside the final furlong, with Caim Hill winning by three parts of a length. Blossom Gate finished a well beaten fourth.

Afterwards Fenton said “that will have done his confidence a lot of good. He got a heavy fall at Clonmel one day and he lost his confidence over fences and hurdles since then. He'll go to Punchestown on Wednesday week for the Conyngham Cup.”
