California to race on at five California Chrome is to stay in training as a five-year-old in 2016 once he has recovered from injury. A bruised cannon bone scuppered the original plan to retire the 2014 American Horse of the Year to stud at the end of this season. Trainer Art Sherman revealed the 2014 Kentucky Derby hero will race on another year. "It's all coming together now. He's coming back to California," Sherman told www.bloodhorse.com. The trainer said the dual Classic winner would return to his base at Los Alamitos racecourse in "75 to 80" days, after a stay at Taylor Made Farm in Central Kentucky. The farm recently bought 30 per cent interest in the colt from previous co-owners Steve and Carolyn Coburn. "It feels good knowing that you're going to have a nice five-year-old horse in the handicap division because so many have gone away," said Sherman. "Personally, it's very gratifying for me. We missed so much with him this year. "We didn't get the chance I wanted to have with him. "It will be great to have a game plan and go for it." California Chrome was being aimed at the Arlington Million in Chicago next month when suffering his latest setback. He had returned to America after being housed at Rae Guest's stables in Newmarket for a crack at the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot following his second place in the Dubai World Cup at Meydan in March, but he had to forego that date due to a foot abscess.
