Following the retirement of Aidan O'Brien's French Derby winner Camille Pissarro due to injury, stable representative Chris Armstrong has reflected upon his impact at Ballydoyle and outlined his potential in joining the stallion ranks.

This season saw the son of Wootton Bassett finish third in the French 2,000 Guineas at ParisLongchamp before he grabbed Classic glory in the French Derby at Chantilly with a game performance.

Ultimately, his fourth place in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown proved to be his final run as a fissure fracture in his fetlock was found afterwards.

Armstrong said: "It is great that he won the Group One (Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere in ParisLongchamp) at two. What he did this year was fantastic.

"It is unfortunate what happened to him. Christophe (Soumillon, jockey) felt he pulled a shoe in Sandown and he just wanted to hang in. Then it came to light in the coming weeks that he had the small hairline. John Halley (vet) and the team looked after him incredibly well, but there's no point risking him.

"He is going to be unbelievably popular at stud. Wootton Bassett is an incredible sire, he's absolutely on fire. For Camille Pissarro to go to stud is going to be incredibly exciting - he ticks every box.

"He has got everything - he has got pedigree, he has got the physique, a great athletic horse, he's got the form in the book.

"Hopefully, in years to come we are looking forward to getting his offspring."
