Camino Lad gets back up to win at Bellewstown The Ger Lyons trained Camino Lad had his head down where it mattered when getting back up close home to win the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden at Bellewstown. Making most of the running under Colin Keane, the Sean Jones and David Spratt owned 9/2 chance was strongly pressed by market leader Karrygrant over a furlong out. Headed with less than 150 yards to race, the Flintshire gelding never gave up and with Keane at his strongest, he battled back in the dying strides to win by a nose. Champion Jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle suffered a nasty looking fall when his mount Mosel slipped up over a furlong from the finish. Ger Lyons said: "I just hope Dylan (Browne McMonagle) is alright - you can ride all the big winners you want and then this is what happens. Hopefully, he is alright. You don't like seeing that (fall). "I genuinely thought I was second, I obviously need to go to Specsavers! Johnny (Murtagh) said 'I don't know' and I said, 'Don't be silly, I'm second and beaten a head. I said I would have a score with him. I would have been happy to pay the score! "Great ride from him. He really is a backend four-year-old, not a three-year-old, and he's not a miler. "I just took a gamble because it was horses rated such and a median type of maiden to put him in, and he's game. "Colin wanted headgear on him and we put the headgear on him and it worked - everything worked. We are lucky around here. "Congratulations to the course, 300 years is phenomenal. When I started in racing, nobody wanted to race here. Every year you have come back, they have been making improvements upon improvements.
