Cannon fires Coreczka at Ayr Co Down trainer Clare Cannon is hoping progressive mare Coreczka can outrun her rating with a big performance in the British Stallion Studs EBF Tennent's Rothesay Stakes at Ayr on Wednesday. The five-year-old has as much as 34lb to find on official figures but has been in such good form of late than Cannon feels Coreczka deserves a crack at Listed company. Coreczka currently has a mark of 71, but that is 19lb higher than she was last June after winning her last three races, all at Dundalk. She has run well at Ayr in the past and, as a consequence, Cannon believes the gamble is worth taking. "We're just going to give it a go, that's all. She's in such good form and that's why we're going, to give it a shot and see how we get on," said Cannon. "She's done well in handicaps and we like going to Ayr so why not? "To get some black type would be nice, for sure. "Her improvement might be down to the routine of Dundalk. She's got used to it. "She's also been to Ayr a few times. She likes the place and she's got stronger as a five-year-old. She's just come to herself. "In all her mile races she's been coming very late and getting there on the line, so I think in a faster-run race the extra trip will help her." The highest-rated horse on 105 in the 14-strong field is Lustrous, who makes her debut for David O'Meara, while Henry Candy's Chain Of Daisies and the Ed Walker-trained Persona Grata are on 103. However, Walker warns the latter will only run if it rains. "I think she'll come on an awful lot for her first run and this looks a nice spot for her," said the Newmarket handler. "There were lots of positives to take out of the run, despite it not looking great on paper. "She's five now but didn't run until the October of her three-year-old season and then she had a very busy 12 months. "She had a break and will have needed that first run but I'm hoping we have an exciting season with her. "We just need it to rain."
