Cape Blano wins Man O'War Stakes

Cape Blanco was a clear-cut winner of the Man O'War Stakes at Belmont Park this evening.

Jamie Spencer settled Aidan O'Brien's charge in behind the pacesetting Mission Approved before driving the 3-1 chance to the front turning in.

Favourite Gio Ponti tried to follow him through but he could never land a blow in his bid to win the race for the third time.

Instead Cape Blanco responded bravely to Jamie Spencer's strong drive to beat his market rival in style. Boisterous was back in third.

O'Brien told At The Races: "I'm delighted and Jamie gave him a great ride. We were worried about the rain on Friday but we were hoping soft ground in America wouldn't be the same as it is back home.

"We ran him a bit short the last day at Ascot but his form in the Irish Champion Stakes last year was excellent and this was the first time this season everything went right for him.

"He's a very tough, genuine, consistent horse with a great will-to-win. This race slotted in lovely for him and something like the Arlington Million might suit but we'll talk about it during the week."
