Captain Conan gets back to winning ways Captain Conan was a comprehensive winner of the Grade 1 Betfred Manifesto Novices' Chase at Aintree. Nicky Henderson's charge was fifth in the Jewson Novices' Chase at Cheltenham but he was backed to bounce back to form and never gave his supporters any serious moments of concern. The race was staged at a decent pace with Fago and Carlito Brigante travelling at a brisk pace and the jumping was examplary in the main. Barry Geraghty asked his mount to take closer order after the eighth fence and having brought his horse to challenge Fago at the fourth last, he was soon able to see off that rival and set sail for home. Tap Night ran on to be second having travelled well throughout while Changing Times ran a gritty race to be third.
