Capture The Action opened her account under rules when defying top-weight in the Watch Irish Racing On Racing TV Handicap Hurdle at Gowran Park.

The Jimmy Mangan-trained mare won a point-to-point at Ballyvodock early last year and, following a two months break, was gaining reward here for some consistent efforts in handicap hurdles.

The daughter of Gold Well had her task eased somewhat when the 100/30 favourite Zinat blundered out of the race at the second flight while Easy Cash D’alex, who was well-backed in the morning but then drifted out to 10/1 before the off, failed to fire and trailed in twelfth.

Capture The Action was supported from 17/2 into 6/1 before challenging early in the straight and getting nicely on top on the run-in to score by two lengths under Sean O’Keeffe. Molly Kaye kept on into second, with Ricky Langford a further half a length back in third.

O’Keeffe said, “She’s a consistent mare and got her day today. She deserved it. She was freshened up a bit since the last day and that probably helped her today.”
