Carberry in form at Newcastle Denis O'Regan's injury woe led to Paul Carberry acting as super-sub for Howard Johnson at Newcastle today. Carberry bagged a treble for the yard, kicking off with Stormy Weather in the opening S. V. Rutter Builders Juvenile Novices' Hurdle. The 5-2 chance was given a confident ride and proved too strong for the odds-on Bocamix on the run from the last, going away to pass the post with two and a quarter lengths to spare. Carberry's trip reaped a second winner when Door Boy (4-9 favourite) duly obliged in the Rely On Rutter Builders Novices' Chase. Carberry picked up a one-day ban (February 8th) for using his whip in the incorrect place on Stormy Weather but his winning run continued when he completed an 18-1 hat-trick on Blacks Bridge. The seven-year-old is owned and trained by Johnson and landed the S.V. Rutter Developments Novices' Handicap Chase. The Johnson team was expected to strike yet again in the svrutter.co.uk Novices' Hurdle but Washington Irving (1-2) was beaten fair and square by Karen McLintock's 3-1 chance Bygones Of Brid in the hands of Graham Lee. Winning owner Graham Wylie said: "When Denis got injured at Leopardstown on Sunday we had to move quickly to find a jockey for our runners today. "We wanted an experienced jockey for Door Boy later on and of course we could not ask Paul to come over just for one ride - he flew into Leeds-Bradford airport this early this morning and I sent a driver down to pick him up." O'Regan is expected to be out of action for about three weeks after breaking his collarbone in a fall from Zaarito at Leopardstown.
