Three times runner-up and twice third from six previous starts, 13/8 favourite Sweetest Rose wasn’t winning out of turn in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Maiden.

Gary Carroll enjoyed a treble at the track yesterday, two of which were on the front end throughout, and he kept things simple again as the daughter of Dark Angel made all to beat Nelda by three parts of a length.

In-form Carroll was on board the winner in place of the suspended Colin Keane.

The revival in fortunes of Ger Lyons’ stable continues and assistant trainer Shane Lyons said: "We're delighted to get the winning mark as it is important for her owners and from her breeding, as she has a very good page. She should have won her maiden by now but at least we have got it out of the way.

"An easy mile or seven furlongs is probably her trip and while she needs something to help her early doors in her races, we will probably discuss taking the blinkers off and putting cheekpieces on next time - that would help her see things out in the latter part of a race."

He added "Gary is riding out of his skin and helped her. There is no better man around here and at the same time there is no better man at any track at the minute - he is riding like a man possessed."
