Casamento has French Derby option Godolphin have revealed that Casamento could line up in the French Derby at Chantilly on June 5th rather than competing at Epsom. The former Michael Halford-trained colt failed to shine in the 2,000 Guineas on his return to action and is currently trading as big as 20/1 for the Investec Derby. Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford has revealed that the Prix du Jockey Club is now an option for last year's Racing Post Trophy winner. Crisford outlined plans for their classic team on the Godolphin website:- "Genius Beast (recent Sandown Classic Trial winner) will run in the Prix Hocquart at Longchamp on Sunday. There is a good German colt but the race looks as though it lacks the strength and depth of the totesport Dante Stakes (at York on Thursday) and hopefully it will be a good trial for Epsom. "Casamento will either go straight for the Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby, Chantilly, June 5th) or Epsom, while (Newmarket listed winner) Ocean War will head straight to Epsom because he has had two races already this year and doesn’t need another one. "So we have three horses in the mix for the Investec Derby - one of them will end up in France but we don’t know which one yet. "We are very happy with how the horses are progressing at the moment. We have some nice three-year-olds and obviously it would be great if we could be competitive in the Investec Derby. "We have got two very good fillies for the Investec Oaks (Epsom Downs, June 3rd) – (1,000 Guineas winner) Blue Bunting and (UAE Oaks winner) Khawlah - and we look forward to older horses like Rewilding and Poet’s Voice appearing later on in the year."
