The Daniel Murphy-trained Sovereign Cry (9/2) was a tough winner of the Lawlors of Naas Supporting Naas GAA Senior Football Race Day Apprentice Handicap.

The three-year-old son of Ten Sovereigns was confidently ridden by Terry Casey, who delivered the horse perfectly to edge out the Daniel McLoughlin-trained Bold Optimist by half a length.

Speaking after the race, trainer Daniel Murphy said: "Our horses are not in form, to be quite honest. The last three months we can't smell a winner. It was a bit of a shock, to be honest. He'd be different class to them alright.

"Isn't it great to get a winner? We are always looking for winners. It's been so frustrating the last few months."
