Sent off 5/1 under Alan O'Sullivan, the nine-year-old mare was held up well off the pace for the first circuit and a half of the two miles-one furlong contest. The daughter of Mahler went on with Crowsatedappletart between the final two flights and outpointed that rival by half a length after a good tussle on the run-in. Winning trainer Pat Foley admitted "That was a little bit of a surprise, I thought she might need the run. "I haven't overworked her, because last season she wasn't the strongest. In fairness to Gerard (Berkery, owner), he sent her back this season looking very strong. "They went very hard there, we kind of thought that they would, especially with ground the way it's changing. "We planned to let her take her time and get a second wind, if she needed it. That's exactly what Alan done and 5lb off her back was a big help. "She loves this ground. We were very close to going straight chasing with her this year, only the ground was too dry, so we didn't get any schooling into her. We said we'd give her the run over hurdles and go from there. "We'll see what the handicapper does now. We might have the option of going for another hurdle or, if not, she'll go chasing."
