Catterick off

Friday afternoon's National Hunt fixture at Catterick has been abandoned due to a frozen track.

Temperatures plummeted overnight to -8C and officials at the Richmondshire venue took a decision way before the scheduled 8am inspection.

Clerk of the course Fiona Needham said: "We got down to as low -8C overnight so there was no point in wasting time.

"When I arrived at 6.15am it was still -7C so we had no chance.

"I thought we'd got rid of these types of temperatures but apparently not.

"It was a glorious day yesterday so as soon as the sun went in temperatures dropped alarmingly."
