On his eighth start over flights, Champagne Kid (14/1) landed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Hurdle at Punchestown under conditional rider Eoghan Finegan

The winner and Court Compliance moved on from their rivals on the run to the last and had a good tussle before the Vadamos gelding gained the upper hand close home for a half-length verdict over the Bill Durkan-trained runner-up.

Sent off 8/13 favourite for his hurdling debut, Green Splendour finished a well-beaten sixth.

Winning trainer Pat Collins was represented by his son Sean who said: “We fancied him to run well and he set the standard as he was rated 118.

"He ran well behind Koktail Divin last season and that form has worked out well since.

“He stays well and would have no bother going up in trip.

“We have a restricted licence and have four horses in training. That’s our first winner at Punchestown.”
